Between Time and Text is a peer-reviewed journal of early modern studies and modern art. The editorial team also runs an online magazine featuring artist interviews, event coverage and more.
How does time impact storytelling and textual analysis? How and when does the blending of space and time get blurry or unrecognizable? What does it mean to live inside the past or to live inside possible futures? And how do these temporal spaces impact values and emotions? These guiding questions are part of the energetic pulse that defines Between Time and Text.
Open Call for Submissions
The editorial team for Between Time and Text is pleased to announce our international open call for poetry submissions! The theme for our upcoming issue is poems inspired by nature. Possible topics could include but are not limited to: nature and the sublime, natural impulses, organic and overgrown imagery, ecocriticism or environmentalism, surrealist nature, outdoor exploration, wilderness survival, returning to nature, slow living, climate change, climate change anxiety, climate change grief, environmental collapse, environmental reclamation, deforestation and reforestation, intimate connections to the land, forest ecology, life cycles, environmental ethics, biocentricism, anthropocentricism, agriculture and gardening, cultivated and uncultivated land, and poetic responses to settler colonial narratives about uncultivated or empty land.

The editorial team welcomes original poetry in English or poems in other languages with accompanying English translations. Authors are welcome and encouraged to submit 1 to 3 poems in PDF or word format. We recommend that your submission be a maximum of 6 pages for sake of ease, though you are more than welcome to submit substantially shorter or longer works of poetry. Interdisciplinary approaches and unconventional perspectives are highly encouraged. Please reach out to betweentimeandtext@gmail.com for any questions or clarifications. The deadline for submissions is Saturday, January 31st, 2027 at 11:59 pm EST. Selected poets will be notified four to five weeks after the submission deadline.
Current Issue
The editorial team is delighted to announce the publication of our first Special Edition: 2025 UBC Undergraduate Shakespeare Conference Proceedings. Because community building and collaboration between artists and scholars was a core value for the conference committee, the essays in this issue are published alongside a small collection of original poems and illustrations by emerging artists from across Canada. We hope you find these critical and creative works to be engaging and challenging, but also expansive and generative in delightfully unexpected ways.
