As part of our commitment to intellectual curiosity and connection between artists and academics, Between Time and Text is delighted to launch our online interview series. The series will include written and recorded interviews with academics and artists from a range of disciplines including but not limited to theatre, music, dance, film, poetry and other forms of creative writing or expression.
The series will explore the various tensions between artistic and academic values, but also between formal and informal creative processes. We are also curious about themes of originality and adaptation, influence and inspiration, anachronistic choices, and art for the contemporary moment. - Laura Ritland is a poet, scholar, critic, and educator currently based in New York City. She is the author of the poetry collection East and West, published with Montreal’s Véhicule Press and the chapbook Marine Science, published with Toronto’s Anstruther Press. Her poetry has been shortlisted for the Pat Lowther Memorial Award, nominated for the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award, won the Malahat Far Horizons Award in Poetry, and featured in multiple publications including In Fine Form, The Walrus, Canadian Notes & Queries, Maisonneuve, The Fiddlehead, and The Malahat Review. She holds an honours BA in English and Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia, an MA in English from the University of Toronto, and a PhD in English Literature from the University of California, Berkeley. She is currently a Postdoctoral Faculty Fellow at New York University where she teaches in Liberal Studies—an interdisciplinary liberal arts college with a transnational and global focus.
- Hannah Siden is a writer, director, and producer based in Vancouver, BC. She believes stories shape our world, and is interested in ideas that are big-hearted and boundary pushing. Her poetry can be found in Room Magazine, PRISM International, subTerrain Magazine, Canthius, SAD Mag, Metatron Press and others. Most recently she was nominated for Best New Poets 2026, and she completed a poetry mentorship sponsored by the Writers’ Union of Canada. Non-fiction bylines include Exclaim! Magazine, Megaphone Magazine, and The Georgia Straight.
- Robyn Jacob is a composer, pianist, vocalist and educator living and working from the unceded territories of the Sḵwxwú7mesh, Xwməθkwəyəm and Səl’il’wətaʔ Nations, also known as Vancouver. Her compositions include commissions by Grammy winning Third Coast Percussion (Chicago), Architek Percussion (Montreal), Grammy winning Sō Percussion (Brooklyn), Chor Leoni (Vancouver), and Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra, as well as collaborations with visual artists and instrument makers. Her avant-pop project Only A Visitor (Mint Records) has toured internationally and released four albums to date. She has released two albums with her duo project The Giving Shapes in collaboration with harpist Elisa Thorn. Her new solo project Immix explores the emotive narratives of voice and electronics. She was part of the multi-disciplinary art collective Publik Secrets (2013-2025), whose work includes a variety of public space interventions, performances, installations and ephemeral gatherings, including Gamelan Bike Bike, which she has co-led with artist and composer George Rahi for over ten years.
- Jeff Oro is an emerging contemporary poet and student at the University of British Columbia. His works have been featured in multiple literary zines and journals including The Liar at Capilano University, The Garden Statuary at the University of British Columbia, and Between Time and Text. His poems encompass a wide range of themes such as love, loss, spirituality, masculinity, resistance, healing, and change. His debut chapbook, Knowing Bodies & No One At All, is currently available for purchase online as a print book or ebook.
